Rethink "Grades"

To bridge the gap between the homeschool mindset and the Australian National standards, three grade groups have been formed. It’s time we change the way we talk about grades, take the pressure off, and stop comparing our children to an outdated standard.

Discovery

Foundation - Grade 2

Milestone

Grades 3 - 4

Plateau

Grades 5-6

Program 1

Australia & Me

Start by learning about the landscape, biomes and shape of Australia, and with each new unit, zoom in closer until you’re focusing on yourself.

More than ever, it’s time we connect with our children, come together as a family and learn as one unit.

5 Units

  1. Australia
  2. Your State/Territory
  3. Your Local Area
  4. Your Family
  5. You

Keep It Simple

3-5 Lessons per unit, designed to take between 15 min – 1 hour each.

Each lesson is displayed on one page, so you can spend more time connecting and discussing with your children.

Aligned to the National Curriculum

The outcomes will be taken care of as you focus on having fun, playing games and getting your hands dirty in the activities.

Mel

” Really really liked the clay activity. Looking at the landforms and the mountains being raised and the rivers being cut in.”

Cindy

“…My son had so much fun doing the Pin the State game.

I was smiling from ear to ear watching him find each state by feeling the shape of each one, then feel for their position on the map.”

Joanne

“We fell down a small rabbit hole today with national anthems.”

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

Each program takes a section of the National Curriculum, so the more you buy, the more sections of the National Curriculum you’ve ticked.

However, you do not need to buy my programs to do this!

Each program tells you which sections are covered, so you are able to source other resources to help you fulfil requirements.

Simply speaking, I’ve combed the National Curriculum for all relevant criteria for each of the programs, and recorded which will be covered.

It’s the focus of family and connectedness, rather than outcomes and curriculum.

Changing the language around grades and instead focusing on the individual child’s level.

Goes hand in hand with the homeschool mindset.

Your child is not ‘in a grade’, they’re in life. Their learning and ability is fluid and should not be contained into a grade box.

Changing the language can change expectations, stress levels and promote greater control over learning.

Discovery is the younger year, when your child is busy discovering the world! (Traditional grades: Foundation-2)

Milestone is the ages where your child has reached a pivotal moment and learning starts to become deeper.  (Traditional grades: 3-4)

Plateau is the final years of primary, where once they’ve finished they’ve reached the plateau and will begin the upward journey to highschool. (traditional grades 5-6)
